- Granville David Carter, 80, of Darlington went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11 AM at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel located in Darlington.
Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8PM, Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the funeral home and at all other times at the residence.
Mr. Carter was born on July 6, 1931 in St. Augustine, Florida. He was the son of the late Wade T and Willie Oliva Carter. He attended Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida and Jacksonville Community College.
He worked for several trailer repair shops as the Parts and Service Manager from 1958 until 1975. In 1975, he opened Carolina Trailer and Equipment Company in Florence and has continued to serve the transportation industry for 36 years. He was the Past-President and charter member of the Windy Hill Fire Department, past Exaulter Ruler of the Florence Elks Lodge # 1020, charter member of the Quinby Baptist Church where he was the former Sunday school Director and a member of the Fisherman's Sunday school class.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth K. Carter; two sons, Gary Carter and wife Melinda of Florence and their children, Dan Carter and Andrew Carter both of Florence and Gayle Brown and husband Al of Columbia, SC and Jeff Carter and wife Teresa of Florence and his children, Crystal Sizemore and husband Adam of Columbus, GA and Michael Cater and wife Chrystal of Johnson-ville, SC; his daughter, Janice Gardner of Darling-ton and her children, Jody Gardner and wife Janet of Florence and Christy Gardner of Darlington; One sister, June Knight of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters-in- law, Pat Carter of Jacksonville, FL and Shirley Bragdon of Washburn, ME; one brother-in -law, Carroll Knox and wife Gloria of Caribou, ME; five great grandchildren, Carter Gardner, Casey Sizemore, Alicia Carter, Haidyn Carter, William Sizemore and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Robert Cater (1964) and David Carter (1977) and a brother, Wade T. Carter, Jr. The family suggests memorials to the Quinby Baptist Church, 950 East Ashby Road, Quinby, SC 29506.
